A bunch of Saturday's ago, I wanted to see Michael Jackson's movie "This Is It". We'd left soccer at 12, movie started at 12:15, no time to drop Nathaniel off at home. I'd heard the movie was great and thought Nathaniel might like the band footage and all the effects of the show so What else do you do but bring him with you.
Regardless of what you think of Michael Jackson, I highly recommend the movie. Yah, he was a little weird. Yah, there was tons of controversy in his life. The movie didn't even hint to any of that. It was pure musical brilliance. A glimpse of what you would've seen had he ever gone on tour.
Nathaniel Loved the movie. The dancing, the band, the bulldozer scene near the end. The Thriller scene freaked him out & he had to hide.
Fast forward to Christmas. A co-worker gave me the soundtrack to the movie. It's good stuff. I can't wait to run to it outside in the spring.
I always play music in the morning while we get ready to go. It's a regular Dance Party USA at our house. What a way to start the day.
The kids were showing off some especially sweet moves this morning:

Merry Christmas!
Finally, an update!
We had a wonderful Christmas. We've been celebrating for over a week now and it's been fabulous spending time with everyone.
We took the kids to see Santa last week. Audrey loved him from a distance but when it came time to get within the same breathing space - she flipped. Our final picture definitely came out interesting and wasn't quite worth the hour and a half we waited for it. I did get a shot on my own of Nathaniel in his lap. He was so excited and would not stop talking to the poor guy!
Nathaniel insisted on making a sign for the reindeer so they would know to stop at our house.
Christmas Eve, we hung the sign outside and sprinkled reindeer food (oatmeal & glitter) around the sign. Nahtaniel surprised us & went right to sleep, Audrey fussed all night but for reasons other than Christmas.
Dan started putting the kitchen together around 10:30. That thing had more pieces than I've ever seen. I enjoyed sitting back with my hot cup of coffee watching as he put in one screw at a time. All 500 of them. He handled it very well and was finished by 1:30.
Nathaniel woke up at 6am and we came downstairs at 7am. I expected a massive whirlwind of wrapping paper and toys flying all over the place but they played with each gift for a while, then opened another. It was drawn out & really enjoyable.
Click the picture for the slideshow. Hopefully by the time this post is up, the video is also ready for viewing.

Later in the afternoon, Dan & I removed the tree and all decorations, putting the house back to normal. Our tree was SO dead, I couldn't handle it anymore. I'm excited to still have two more days off, then I only work three days and then four more days off. Can't beat that!

Do you see what I see?
What a happy girl!

She's so smiley, so happy.
But something in this picture is not right. Do you see it?

Now do you see it?

Here, let me help:

Took me a while, but I remembered that while we were at the play area at the mall Wednesday, she fell hard face first while playing on the slide. She cried but shook it off & kept playing, I didn't think much of it but it stuck out in my mind that she kept moving her lips funny.
Oh well. At least it's just the baby tooth.
She's still got a sweet baby girl smile. It'll be her trademark.

I almost forgot!
While at the mall yesterday, we bumped into the one, the only, Santa!
I didn't take any pics, the kids weren't in their proper attire of course. Nathaniel HAD to see him tho and make sure he was really there. He was sooo scared to walk up to him, they had a conversation that I couldn't hear, Nathaniel gave him a high-five and then came running back to me.
He walked away sad becuase he forgot to tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas. He seems a little reassured to know we'll be going to back to see him when he can really think about what he needs to tell Santa.
I can't believe Santa is Already at the mall.
Crazy.

Fabulous
What a fabulous day.
We actually slept till 7am. (No, I will not go on about how we were up from 1am - 3am with awake kids) (No, I will not go on about how I stayed up till 12:30am and that probably wasn't the smartest thing to do). VERY relaxing breakfast. We puttered around the house and then packed up & went for a very long walk around Massabessic Lake. It was beautiful out.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the memory card in my camera so I missed out on a ton of great shots. Lots of leaves, kids running around, laughing, falling, running some more. I have this one shot taken from my phone. Better than nothing

We grabbed lunch and then headed for the real adventure of the day.
Audrey's First Haircut!
I've been putting it off for a while. The sides of her hair aren't quite growing but the back is out of control. She has a very natural mullet. She pulls out barrettes as soon as I put them in and then she just looked like a messy kid.
She handled it very well. There's a little bit of cleanup still to be done but what a difference!

The finished product:

We then headed to the mall to get my phone fixed, get some yummy smoothies and the kids played some more at the indoor play place.
We came home & crashed on the couch before bed & watched the new movie UP.

It was a good day. Good night!

Is it Christmas?
Because I feel like it is. We don't have to work tomorrow, school is closed, I'm very excited. We don't have any chores to do. Well, we do, but we'll ignore them. I can't sleep. I'm too excited about having Wednesday off. I've spent the last 3 hours surfing the internet for nothing in particular and am watching really dumb tv shows.
I have a fun update to post tomorrow night. Stay tuned.
We had a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Played, ate, napped...
These are a glimpse of what a lazy day looks like for us:
Notice his bandana from Dan's halloween costume, his dressy shirt leftover from church with yogurt all down the front because he HAD to have these foolish yogurts that you squeeze and eat from the container. They're dumb. Really dumb. You spend months, maybe years, trying to teach your child how to eat with a spoon. How to not make a mess. How to sit right at the table. Then some lazy person comes up with the idea to basically squeeze the container so you can just lick up the yogurt?!
And I actually fell for it in the grocery store too. I told Nathaniel to pick out what yogurt he wanted and he said "Carter has these, he eats them every day, I want these". So fine, I'm a firm believer in picking my battles, so we got them. I'll tell you one item we'll never be buying again.
My favorite part of the outfit is the pants. Those are size 2T jammy pants. He's now in a 5T so clearly, they're Quite a bit small. But we weren't going back out, it's Lazy Sunday remember?

Halloween: The adult version
After skipping thru the happy little corn maze with the kids, Dan & I got gorry and went to a real Halloween party.

I guess Dan is a Happy Zombie - he kept smiling in the pics.
On another note, I made it back to the gym today.
Since I'd been a little out of practice, I set out to do a 5K in 40 minutes. I did it in 32 minutes. That was a good thing. Tomorrow, I'm adding a mile. I must say, I absolutely hate running indoors. It's sooooo boring.
The gym got all new equipment. That provided a little entertainment as I watched all the muscles of the gym moving everything around and getting rid of the old as they prepare for the new & improved stuff. I had to wonder, does the pretty, new & improved gym equipment make a toned body come easier?
I got lost in my thoughts for a while and Then at mile 2.42, it happened.
I got bored watching the new equipment come in, I was bored with the treadmill, I was extremely bored with my iPod. I didn't want to be running inside anymore. I wanted to be outside. I didn't want to be a rodent stuck on a wheel. I didn't want to have a not-so-little STOP button staring at me, screaming at me to press it & get back to work. I wanted to be trapped a mile away from my office and have no choice but to run all the way back. So I came up with a solution - close your eyes! Imagine you're running out at the beach, in the woods, Anywhere but stuck in the gym! The stop button will disappear and I can pretend I'm outside on a beautiful 70 degree day with the sun on my face.
Lesson Learned.
Do Not Close Your Eyes while running 7mph on a treadmill.
As confident as you may be, You will not continue to run in a straight line.
Fortunately, I caught myself before I looked like THIS girl & saved myself completely humiliation.
Especially in front of all those muscles.
Next time, I'll just change the channel on the tv in front of me.
It's going to be a long winter. Stuck inside. On a treadmill.

Trick or Treat
Instead of going around a neighborhood this year, we went to the farm. They had a haunted hayride, cornmaze and characters walking around handing out candy.
Nathaniel's been talking since last year about being a robot. Then it was a Transformer. Then when we went to get his costume, he HAD to be the Doctor.
Audrey was a zebra. She went nuts seeing the animals, she was so excited.
The weather was beautiful. It was a fun day
