Day at the park

Yesterday couldn't have possibly been any nicer outside. We headed down to Griffin Park, with balls, bubbles and a scooter.

The scooter didn't last long so we walked the track which is 1 mile around. Then headed in to find a dry not-covered-in-duck poop area of grass. We did bubbles, soccer and lazing around.

The playground was packed. Nathaniel shocked us with all his climbing and daredevil moves. It was great to see him not be intimidated by the heights and different angles. He never would've done that stuff last summer. Audrey wasn't even walking when we were at the park last Summer so a huge difference in her play time.

Everyone fell asleep early last night (including me) and other than the cat waking us up all night with her yowling, we all slept peacefully.

For the record - Nathaniel dressed himself. This is our third summer with that MAINE sweatshirt, I think we've definitely gotten our $14.99 worth!! You can see a button down dress shirt peeking out from under it. He insisted on it.

There's a link at the bottom for all the pics but here's a sample

Track Me

You may notice I added a widget on the right side for a challenge I just joined. It's 1000 miles in 2010. No, my last run wasn't 211 miles, I'm pretty sure I'd be dead if I had attempted that. I had to add that in so I could be caught up to date with the challenge.

just the facts

Over this past week we:
  • went to a trial karate class. Not sure if we'll sign up or not. Might just wait till After summer to commit to any type of Saturday morning activity. I really like our do whatever we want weekends. Maybe wait till fall.
  • went to a birthday party on Sunday for one of N's school friends. Apparently we're in the "in" crowd. Was a lot of fun to watch him playing with his buddies. He didn't care at all that I was even there, he was in his glory.
  • we are able to play outside after work because it's now bright till almost 7. that rocks.
  • pulled a small wad of toilet paper out of Nathaniel's nose with tweezers. Somehow he managed to lodge it WAY up there. That was fun and something I can now check off the list of things to do as a mom.
  • had a broken pipe in the bathroom sink. Nathaniel was kind enough to leave all his tools out for the repair man to use
  • Audrey goes outside twice a day now. She also goes to bed at 6:30. I have a feeling the two are related.
  • Cats in heat are not fun to live with.
  • I've realized that I don't run well with other people but I have a great time when I'm alone.

Sound Familiar?

Me: Nathaniel, Stop playing with the blinds, you know you're not supposed to be playing with them.

Him: I didn't touch them!!! Mazie did it!!!

I think She likes us.

Mazie has become quite comfortable in our home.
Such a ra-tard.
She will not drink out of her water bowl.
It must be FRESH water.
We always end up with the weird animals.
Isn't she puuuurrty?

TGIF

I'm awfully tired for such a fast week. I'm glad it's almost done. 4pm Friday can't come soon enough. Been long days with even longer nights. We haven't been getting settled at night til late. Not sure why things have been taking so much longer this week. Audrey's ears are clearly bothering her. This pain doesn't seem to introduce itself until the late hours of the night. This is about the same time the new cute little kitty decides that it's a great time to play with anything that isn't a permanently fastened fixture within the house.

Long days. Long nights.

Next week starts a 2 week crazy session at work of training for our new management system. Days off are not allowed during this time. The kids are banned from getting sick until forever.

I didn't run today. I planned on going but then it started snowing then raining so I opted for a manicure instead. I walked fast in the parking lot.

That counts right?

I'm lovin it.

We've had such a great treat for March. It's not even MID-March and we've already been able to be outside so much. What a gift we've been given. It really is perfect timing, I think we were all a little DONE with being house bound.

I went for my first outside run of 2010 today. It felt amazing. Sun on my face, slight breeze. What a rush. I took a wrong turn and what I planned for a 3.5 mile run ended up only being 2.5. OOPS. I'll try again tomorrow. I did welcome the interruptions of having to wait to cross the road, seeing a coworker mid-run giving me the excuse to stop for a minute to chat, I had to stop once to play with my iPod.... SO Bummed that I missed that extra mile. No wonder I finished so quickly! At least I went. It felt so good that I'm starting to think again about some real training. A real challenge. Hmmmmm.

Introducing...

Carrie...The Trapeze Artist

I did it. I flew on a trapeze. I will not lie. It was scary. It was one of the scariest things I've ever done. My heart was in my throat. I felt sick to my stomach. I think I might've thrown up in my mouth a little bit.

But I did it.

And I can't wait to go do it again!

Here's me: HIDING
I should add that the three people that went before me were ages 4, 7 and 5.

How Embarrassing.

Learning how to hold the bar:
All you need to know in one easy 3 second lesson
Waiting for the bar and thinking - WHAT AM I DOING?!
They told me to jump and I told my body to jump

But nothing happened.

So then they said JUMP again...
Somehow, I got my legs to do it
And I JUMPED

UMPH - Boy I feel heavy.
OH WAIT! It's like being on a swing!
Just harder
KICK BACK
KICK FORWARD

I'm doing it! I'm FLYYYYING

So I did a pretty cool flip at the end to dismount. Unfortunately, it wasn't caught on film.

They yelled up and asked if I wanted to do the flip - Of course I said yes. It sounded easier than the alternative - let go & Fall.

So the first time around, she said tuck knees and arch back.

I went UP - where were my knees?! I couldn't feel my legs anymore. My whole body was numb. AHHH EVERYONE IS WATCHING!

Second time, she yells TUCK! And I did it!!! I tucked & let go and I flipped backwards!

I can't wait to go back.

Movin on Up!

We went to Kindergarten open house tonight.   Manchester does have FREE public kindergarten but after I added up the expense & headaches of before & after school care, summer vacation coverage and other various needs, it made way more sense to keep him at the school he's at now for one more year.

By the end of the 2010-11 school year, they say he will be able to:

Count to 115
Read all the books in the room
Continue Math / Computer / Science studies
He'll have homework throughout the week and spelling tests on Fridays
They get longer outside time
They learn more about money
At the end of the year they'll have 100 more every day words
They'll have summer reading projects

And the Biggest change:

NO MORE NAP TIME

You would've thought the teacher said that they get to eat Chocolate Donuts every day followed by strawberry ice cream shakes!  I don't think he heard anything else the rest of the meeting other than NO MORE NAPS.

He's sold.  Kindergarten is going to be pretty cool.

Audrey started in a new room on Monday too.  They move rooms every 6-8 months for developmental growth. She's with all her old buddies now, most importantly Hayden.  They're stuck together like Glue.

Popeye

I've gotten hooked on a new fruit shake that in turn, the kids have started to enjoy

Banana, Yogurt, Ice, Milk, and Spinach. You can't even taste the spinach and it makes the shake a funny green incredible hulk green color.

Audrey's had blueberries in it too.
